Hello everyone, a quick update.

It’s been a few months since my last update, and things have been going very well up here at the seminary.  We just finished another year; and right now my room is in boxes as I get ready to move out for the summer.  I finished my philosophy undergraduate degree this year; and will be moving into the graduate school to study theology.  I still have 5 more years of seminary to go.  I thank you all for your prayers; they have really helped me endure all the tests and papers these last few weeks!

I will be returning to Indiana for my brother’s graduation from Purdue during May 13th till the 24th.  Please let me know when/where you might be so I can come see you.  My current plans are to spend time at my parent’s house, make a trip to Indianapolis, to Chicago, and around Purdue.  Let me know if you’ll be any of these places!

For the summer, I am assigned to St. John the Apostle parish in Oregon City.  It’s a wonderful parish, and much bigger than the one I was in last year.  Since it’s so close to Portland, I hope to see more of my Portland area friends this year.  I’ll be there June and July.  In August, I’ll be on a 30 day intensive spirituality retreat in preparation for entering the Theology program.  I’m really looking forward to it.

We had a tragic event here last month.  5 of our seminarians were driving out to dinner when they rolled the SUV several times and a number of them were hurt.  They all recovered nicely and finished the year except for one of the guys who had to be flown to Portland.  He’s endured a lot of surgery after sustaining a lot of lower leg injuries.  He’ll have to learn to walk again; but should make a full recovery in 6-12 months.  The most touching part was that our community really came together, having a prayer vigil right after the accident as they were being transported to local hospitals; taking care of the guys as they came back, driving them to hospitals for checkups, and for the seminarians and priests who have spent so much time with them and their families.  It’s also been amazing how much support from all the parishes we got.  Theilo is Philippino; and the whole Philippino community came together to support their family as well as hold regular prayer vigils.  I think it’s due to their constant prayers that he has recovered so well.

I’ve been keeping my web page pretty updated with pictures.  You can check them out at:

I’ll be sending out another email when I get finished moving and into my new parish in a month. Please keep me updated on how you are all doing.  I love hearing from you all – even if its just a quick blurb.

God bless,
Matt
